Conscientious Wrist Surgeon Affluent in all Surgical Aspects

Wrist is a complex interdependent structure:

Made of ligaments, cartilage, bones and tendons. Encompassed within eight carpal bones wrist is a delicate structure and when even one of its part sustains injury or is affected by a disorder the wrist joint gets damaged on the whole and loses its motion affecting the hand joint and forearm functioning thereafter.

Constant tingling and numbness:

With unbearable pain and swelling are symptoms that signify a major debilitating condition of the wrist. A fall on the outstretched palm, a traumatic injury, a congenital disease or a disorder of the nerves such as arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, scaphoid fracture or other disorders cause the wrist to be clinically dead.

Treatment is individually formulated:

depending on the severity and type of injury or disorder borne by the wrist. Not all painful conditions of the wrist heal after medication or realignment and thus need services of an efficient wrist surgeon for all problems from dislocation to a severe tendon or ligament tear. Any delay in diagnosis or treatment by an unskilled surgeon can become the cause of a lifetime impairment.

Treatment Techniques:

Surgical techniques vary after crucially and completely evaluating and diagnosing the problem. The wrist surgeon might adopt any of the following modalities.

Non Surgical Techniques:

After retrospection the wrist surgeon begins treatment with some oral anti inflammatory medicines to relieve the patient of the pain. On the medicines being ineffective or insufficient, corticosteroid injections may be inserted into the wrist joint to bring back the lost motion. Also recommended with the non surgical techniques are the physical therapy exercises to stretch and relax the stiffened tissues and muscles of the wrist.

Metal Hardware Fixation Techniques:

For a broken or dislocated bone, the wrist surgeon immobilizes the wrist in fiberglass cast or splint for mild fractures. The wrist is elevated under them usually with a removable brace for few days or weeks till it is healed. If the bone is displaced and broken severely, the patient has to undergo fracture fixation by insertion of metal pins through the affected skin (under local anesthesia) which holds the two broken pieces together and are removed once the healing is done with. It is normally an outpatient procedure. In some rather unusual and critical fractures, the wrist surgeon adopts the methodology of fixing them by metal screws or external fixators such as metal plates or wires to maintain proper and adequate alignment of the bones. read more...

Arthroscopic Repair Technique:

For many wrist injuries or disorders, wrist surgeon takes up the simple arthroscopic technique for repairing the damaged tendons or tissues. Considered as minimally invasive procedure, small incisions are made on the patient’s wrist and pencil like instruments containing a camera and some special tools to perform the surgery are inserted whereby the damaged area is repaired or removed. This is undertaken in cases of impaired cartilage condition, removal of ganglion cysts or sometimes excessive joint lining that stiffens the wrist muscles affected by rheumatoid arthritis. read more...

Wrist Replacement Technique:

Under arthroplasty or replacement, the damaged joints in the wrist are removed and substituted or replaced by artificial or prosthetic joints. Wrist replacement is performed by the wrist surgeon only when the patient fails to complete normal daily tasks without help or has significant pain every day despite taking medicines or applying all non surgical remedies to relieve the injury or disease. This technique helps the patient to be relieved of the pain and regain back the lost motion of his wrist with the wrist performing normally after being replaced by surgery with artificial joints.

Elbow Doctor, Dr. Vikas is affluent with this technique and has helped many patients to replace their irreparable cells by stem cell therapy. read more...
